Rules of Success

What motivates you to achieve success at home or work? Senior FinTech Consultant, Nicky Harris shares some top tips for achieving what you want.

Enforced lockdown, as bizarre and unexpected as it is, has given many of us more time for self-improvement. As well as listening to lots of podcasts and digesting a multitude of inspirational speeches, I’ve also spent time reading, something unheard of for me! But what have I learnt? There were three key themes that came up again and again as critical in the pursuit of success. Do you agree? What’s your secret for success?

1. Have a Vision/Goal

Having a vision or goal of what you want or where you want to go with your life will drive you to be the best you can be. Without this, you will drift around, and not achieve what you want from either a career standpoint or a personal enhancement standpoint.

Kobe Bryant was a huge advocate of this, always pushing himself harder, setting goals, having a vision of being the best player to grace the NBA. I personally believe he was the best player of his generation and he is someone I take inspiration from.

2. Don’t listen to negativity

Everything is possible, you just have to find a way to prove it. Dedicate your mind and time to achieve the impossible. One of the greatest quotes I have read came from the late, great Nelson Mandela, who said:

“It always seems impossible until it’s done.” Nelson Mandela

3. Work your backside off

Nothing in life is handed to you. Work harder, and smarter, and be more consistent than your competition.

No one demonstrates this dedication and focus better than Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“I wanted to make sure that out of the 24 hours of the day, I didn’t waste one single hour. Those hours were too precious” Arnold Schwarzenegger

These are three things I like to follow to be successful in my career and also in my day-to-day life, as a father/husband and friend.
